Getting Married in Stockholm City Hall?
Congratulations — you've chosen one of the most beautiful places in Sweden to say yes.
I'm Anna, a wedding photographer who has photographed around forty civil ceremonies in Stockholm in 2026 alone.
I know the building, the light and the quiet corners — the Oval where the ceremony happens, the iconic window, the red sofa, and the best outdoor spots along the water of Riddarfjärden, in every season.
How to book your wedding
- Book your ceremony date on the City of Stockholm's official website — Saturdays year-round, plus a few weekdays in May and June.
- Apply for a certificate of no impediment (hindersprövning) from the Swedish Tax Agency, Skatteverket. It's valid for four months. Couples living abroad can also marry here — check Skatteverket's pages for the documents you need.
- Send the original certificates to the City Hall and wait for their confirmation.
- If either of you doesn't speak Swedish or English, an interpreter can be arranged at no extra cost.
- Book your photographer — as soon as you have your ceremony time.
About the Ceremony
The ceremony itself lasts only a few minutes.
What I capture is the nervous joy on the staircase up to the ceremony room, the rings, the first kiss — and of course your entrance as a married couple outside the doors.
The portraits before and afterwards in the courtyard and by the water. Group photos with your guests depending on the session you chosen.
I photograph many mixed couples here, and many from abroad. I speak Swedish, English and Greek. If its just the two of you I would be happy to be your witness.
On your wedding day
- Bring valid ID — passports or Swedish ID cards are shown at registration.
- Ceremonies are held in the Oval. Be there at least 15 minutes early and wait for your turn.
- A maximum of 10 guests, including children and your photographer — several couples share the building at the same time.
- Bags larger than A4 must be left in the cloakroom.
